PRESS STATEMENT
The Central Government employees including Defence Workers, throughout the country massively participated in today's nationwide strike along with other sections of the working class in the country. Despite the disinformation campaign unleashed by the Government of India through the Print and Electronic media over the alleged huge pay rise through the acceptance of the 6th CPC recommendations, the large scale participation of the employees in today,s strike action proved that the Central Government employees could not be misled by such false propaganda. They have realized that the so called bonanza of pay rise has been only for the top echelons of the bureaucracy and the employees have only been given a pittance. They have correctly recognized the fact that it had been the senior bureaucrats of the Govt. of India who had been calling the shots even in the Pay Commission Panel.
The offices of the Income tax Department remained closed throughout the country, which witnessed the participation in the strike not only of the employees but also of the entire promotee officers. Almost same was the case in most of the offices of the Audit and Accounts Department, whose promotee officers had also served the strike notice. The employees of Postal accounts, Civil Accounts and the Defence Accounts also joined the strike action all over the country..
The functioning of the Postal department and its offices throughout the country remained paralyzed due to the strike action. Even small rural posts offices remained closed due to the active participation of the Grameen Dak Sewaks in the strike action. All major post offices in Metro cities and important industrial towns remained virtually paralyzed and the RMS divisions did not function at al anywhere in the country.
In the offices of Ground Water Board, Central Water Commission, Printing and Stationery, Geological Survey of India, Various Survey organizations, Atomic Energy Department, Indian Bureau of Mines, the strike had been total. Thousands of employees participated in the strike from various other small and big departments of the Government of India, viz Customs and Central Excise, Census, CPWD, including the Junior Engineers, CGHS, Foreign Trade organizations, Agmark, National Savings,Govt. Medical Stores, , Indian Council of Medical Research, Passport offices, National Library, Office of the Salt Commissioner, DGS & D, Films Division, Press Information Bureau, Estate Manager, CPWD, Staff Selection Commission, Airport Authority of India , Trade Mark Registry, All India Radio, etc.
This 12th All India strike organized under the auspices of the Sponsoring Committee of Central Trade Unions against the neo liberal economic policies of the Govt. of India and particularly against the escalating inflation and price rise elicited the massive participation of workers in both Public and Private Sector, Seven million State Govt. employees, workers of various industrial undertakings and establishments, even small shops and factories, the employees of Financial Sector establishments like Banks and Insurance. Almost the entire working class in the country participated in this one day Nationwide strike action.
